You Need a Headshot For Zoom. Here’s Why

A headshot for Zoom? Yes, I realize that Zoom (or MS Teams) is for video meetings and you’re mostly in video mode—except when you’re not.

We’ve all been in long virtual business or network meetings in which either: nature calls; you need to hydrate; or get a call you’ve must take. Then you stop your video.

That’s when you need a professional headshot on your screen. Typically, when you turn off your video either your display name (you did put your name in the Display Name field right?); or a photo you uploaded.

The display name on your screen just sits out there with no context. So, if the people you’re video chatting with aren’t very familiar with you, then your name alone doesn’t create any association for other attendees. If you have a general snapshot that is cropped out of a group event; a family shot; or a low quality image of you, these images don’t convey professionalism in a virtual business meeting.

A high quality professional headshot that’s properly cropped and shows a buttoned-up you, will leave that positive impression you want to convey in your meetings and networking video calls.

That same professional headshot should also be on your other business sites like LinkedIn, so you have consistency across where people will see your business profiles.
