Everyone is Photogenic

"I'm not photogenic"
"I don't take a good photo"
"I'm too nervous in front of a camera"

I hear these phrases from some people coming to me for a new headshot; and sometimes do so reluctantly because of how they think they look in photos based on past experiences.

Most people are a little nervous getting in front of a camera for headshots -- even experienced models like Kate, pictured here. Now, part of the nervousness is not knowing what to expect, and some of it may be from a previous sub-par experience.

The fact is that everyone is photogenic, but they just haven't been posed and directed into authentic expressions; and they haven't been photographed in great lighting. Also important is providing an overview of what to expect in a headshot session.

Prior to coming to my studio space (or if I bring my setup to you), we'll have a conversation a day in advance about what to expect in your session and what outfits to bring. And just before beginning our session, we'll again go over how your experience will unfold just before you get in front of the camera. Knowing what to expect, and then seeing some of the first images on my laptop both puts people at ease and also astonishes them when they see how photogenic they really are.
